Toastmasters International is the world's leading organisation dedicated to public speaking, communication and leadership. Once you become a member of a Toastmasters Club, your goal is to carry out the 10 projects of the Communication and Leadership Manual.

Each project has precise objectives that help you in developing your skills one step at a time. Each project builds upon what you have learned in your previous speeches. By completing the ten projects, you will master the basic skills for effective public speaking.

After having completed the 10 projects of the Communication and Leadership Manual, you will then be able to chose among dozens of advanced projects, to refine your skills and specialize your training to your specific needs.

For details, you can read a Presentation of the Educational System (requires a .pdf reader) and visit the web site of Toastmasters International at http://www.toastmasters.org/

History of Toastmasters

Toastmasters was founded in October 1924 by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley and had its first meeting at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California. World Headquarters are now in Mission Viejo, California. There are more than 8,000 Toastmaster Clubs and 170,000 members in 60 countries around the world.

Over 3 million men and women have benefited from Toastmasters International training. More than 1,000 corporations and government agencies sponsor in-house Toastmasters Clubs as communication training workshops for their employees. Specialized Clubs have been established at military bases, colleges and universities, churches and prisons, as well as among senior citizens and professional groups.

Toastmasters International is open to anyone over the age of 18; regardless of race, colour, creed, sex, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or physical and/or mental disability, so long as the person is able to participate in the program.
